September 2011 | Visit from Harrier Jet Engine

On Wednesday 21st September the children at the nursery were very pleased to welcome the Boscombe Down Aviation Club, who brought with them the jet engine of a harrier jet engine.

After the engine had been unloaded from its trailer, the children took it in turns to go and sit in the cockpit.  The men that brought over the engine from Boscombe Downs showed the children how to move the seat up and down as well as also turning the lights on and off within the cockpit. Some of the children also tried on the helmet that the pilot of the plane would ware. The younger children were all very keen to see the engine, but when they were all up close none of them wanted to get in, they were all happy to touch the plane and look at how much bigger it was than them.

Even the staff had fun looking at the harrier engine and finding out snippets of information about the cockpit.

We all had a lovely fun and exciting day and would like to say a huge ‘Thank You’ to the men who brought over the Harrier jet engine cockpit for us.

April 2011 | Redhill Fire Station Visit

All the children and staff recently enjoyed a visit by Green Watch from Redhill Fire Station. The children loved exploring the engine and listening to the firemen tell us all about the different parts of the appliance and what they were used for and they listened carefully as they were told what number to phone if there was a fire. The firemen had to leave with the lights flashing and sirens going to go and fight a real fire.

For the remainder of the week the children have enjoyed using the resources box, kindly lent to us by Green Watch. They have been putting out fires and learning how to call 999 and to drop and roll!

Learning all about how Fire men help us has been great fun and we have lots of future fire men and women in the making.
